The Story of Bernie's Hot Dog Co.

The Bernie's Hot Dog Story

Opened in Highlands Ranch, Colorado in December 2008, Bernie’s Hot Dog Co. is the creation of Joe and Su Zemla named after their pet beagle, Bernie.  Joe, a Detroit native, has spent almost twenty years managing food and beverage operations at some of the nations leading sports and entertainment facilities.  Su is the food guru with a culinary degree from the Art Institute of Colorado.  She also worked in her family restaurant growing up in Orange County, California and also spent six years with P.F. Changs China Bistro.

The idea behind Bernie’s was to create a place much different from the standard hot dog joint.  To start, Bernie’s serves only premium all beef hot dogs and locally made, gourmet sausages served on fresh baked buns.  All the toppings are prepared fresh daily, including Su’s homemade coney chili.  Quality is never compromised and the Zemlas don’t believe in serving precut veggies or canned chili.  A full variety of gluten-free options are available as well as healthy options.  A fresh tossed salad, veggie dog or an all-natural dog are examples of what makes Bernie’s different.  All of this as well as our beer battered fries, onion rings, baked chips, drinks, cold beer and ice cream and you are good to go.

Great food is not the only thing that makes Bernie’s special.  Add a funky-modern atmosphere with flat panel televisions and great tunes and a crew that takes pride in delivering memorable customer service and you have all the ingredients to Bernie’s Hot Dog Co.
